The Crowne Plaza Penang Straits City held its grand opening ceremony earlier this morning thus becoming the first IHG branded hotel in Penang.
The 5-star property located in the heart of Butterworth marks the first milestone in the Straits waterfront flagship development.
Present at the ceremony earlier this morning was Ms Chew Gek Khim, Executive Chairman of Straits Trading along with Ms Tan Hwei Yee, Chief Executive Officer of STC Property Management Sdn Bhd and Ms Shi’ai Liang, Senior Director, Development of IHG among others.
Joining them were other directors, representatives from government agencies and corporate guests.
“Crowne Plaza Penang Straits City marks the transformation of its legacy assets and land bank in Butterworth and is the beginning of a transformative journey for Straits City.
“This development goes beyond infrastructure. Straits City is about shaping a thriving urban ecosystem where space where business, communities and innovation come together, contributing to Butterworth’s long-term growth and vibrancy. as a place to work, live and play”, said Chew in his opening remarks.
Sustainability is central to Straits City’s vision as the project incorporates eco-conscious infrastructure with smart technologies such as intelligence-driven security systems and internet-of-things solutions that improve energy efficiency.
Additionally, features like pedestrian-friendly walkways within the development will be introduced where feasible to encourage a sustainable and active lifestyle.
Chew later joined VIP guests to sign the digital plaque to mark the official opening.
Guests were also taken on a tour of the hotel facilities and also the Straits City Concept Centre.
Meanwhile, Crowne Plaza Penang Straits City and Straits Galleria are the first of ten phases spanning 40 acres with completion schedules for 2038.
Besides the strategic location, Straits City is primed to meet the rising demand for housing, services and amenities in the area.
