Shangri-La Rasa Sayang, Penang has officially launched an exclusive Sichuan culinary journey at its famed Spice Market Café, offering guests an immersive taste of authentic Chinese cuisine.

Flown in specially for the occasion, Master Chef Peng Yong, Head Chef of Sichuan cuisine at Shangri-La Chengdu, brings his expertise and flair to Penang, adding a truly authentic touch to the promotion.

The grand launch event, attended by both locals and international guests, featured a lively celebration including a traditional Chinese drum performance and a captivating “face-changing” magic showcase—both hallmarks of Sichuan cultural expression. Among the notable guests were resort General Manager Jegan Selvarajan and Penang Chinese Town Hall Chairman Tan Sri Tan Khoon Hai.

Chef Peng, trained under Taidou-class Sichuan master Zhang Zhoungyou, is renowned for his ability to balance the seven signature flavours of Sichuan cuisine—sweet, sour, numbing, spicy, bitter, fragrant, and salty—with finesse and precision.

The curated menu spotlights a wide range of classic dishes, representing ten distinct spice profiles including the dry spicy and crisp spicy varieties. Guests can also look forward to a culinary showcase of 30 traditional cooking methods, with signature Sichuan techniques such as stir-fry, dry stir-fry, and dry roast.

Chef Peng’s must-try creations include: Steamed Chicken in Sichuan Pepper Sauce, Chengdu Bo Bo Chicken (Red Chili), Mousse Consommé, Stir-Fried Prawns with Dried Chili and Peanuts, Modern Fried Chicken with Sichuan-Style Flavoured Sauce, Poached Fish Fillet with Sichuan Pepper, Mapo Tofu with Wagyu, Fried Emei Eel Slices to name a few choices.

Each dish captures the bold, complex flavours and the famed ma la (numbing and spicy) sensation that make Sichuan cuisine globally beloved.

The Sichuan promotion is priced at RM189 nett per person from Sunday to Thursday, and RM228 nett on Fridays and Saturdays.
