
This time around, the Club Roots on The LITE Drive with Phat Fabes is partnering with ASAP by Lye to present “The Big Borneo Bash”, a special two-night celebration marking the restaurant’s 1st Anniversary while honouring the music, culture and nightlife heritage of Sabah and Sarawak.
The event is taking place on June 20 & 21, 2026, at ASAP by Lye, a gathering place for East Malaysians and music lovers alike, bringing together legendary DJs, live performers and cultural showcases in a unique weekend that celebrates both Borneo’s rich heritage and the venue’s first year of success.
Since opening its doors, ASAP by Lye has established itself as one of the Klang Valley’s most distinctive dining destinations, introducing authentic Bornean flavours and hospitality to a wider audience. “The Big Borneo Bash” serves as the centrepiece of its anniversary celebrations, combining food, music and culture in one unforgettable weekend.
Celebrating a Year of Bornean Hospitality – As part of its 1st Anniversary festivities, ASAP by Lye is inviting guests to experience not only the flavours of Sabah and Sarawak, but also the sounds and memories that shaped generations across East Malaysia. The event is expected to attract former club-goers, East Malaysians living in the Klang Valley, and anyone who appreciates great music, culture and community.

Saturday, 20 June – A Reunion of Borneo’s Nightlife Legends – Beginning at 7.30pm, the first evening pays tribute to the golden era of Sabah and Sarawak nightlife. For one night only, DJs who helped define the club scene throughout the 1980s and 1990s will reunite behind the decks, spinning the dance-floor classics and retro favourites that once packed clubs throughout East Malaysia.
“The Big Borneo Bash” brings together a stellar lineup of DJs who helped define the nightlife scene across Sabah and Sarawak during the 1980s and 1990s.
Joining the event is Erwin “Ez-E”, a Sabahan DJ now based in Kuala Lumpur who made his name at the legendary Shenanigans in Kota Kinabalu. Known for his energetic sets and strong connection to the Bornean club scene, Ez-E remains a familiar name among those who experienced the golden era of Sabah nightlife.
Club Roots is flying in specially for the event is Berry Jumpo, a proud Bidayuh Dayak and a native of Sarawak, who was one of Kuching’s most recognisable DJs during the 80s and 90s. As a resident DJ at the iconic The Aquarius, Berry helped create the soundtrack for a generation of Sarawakian clubbers and became synonymous with one of Kuching’s most popular nightlife destinations.
Completing the lineup is James Naras, a Penangite who became a familiar figure on the East Malaysian club scene during the 80s and 90s. As a resident DJ at the legendary Tiffany Discotheatre, James played to packed dance floors in Kota Kinabalu, Tawau and Sandakan, helping shape the soundtrack of a generation of clubbers across Sabah. Known for his crowd-pleasing mix of dance classics and party anthems, James was a favourite among nightlife enthusiasts throughout East Malaysia.
Joining Phat Fabes is renowned DJ and entertainment industry veteran Robert Mah, whose decades of experience have made him a respected figure in Malaysia’s nightlife scene. Together, these DJs represent a significant chapter in the history of East Malaysian nightlife, making The Big Borneo Bash a rare reunion of the personalities and music that defined an era.

Sunday, 21 June – Live Music and the Spirit of Borneo
The celebration continues on Sunday, 21 June from 8.30pm, with an evening dedicated to the rich musical heritage of Borneo. The programme will feature live band performances by Kade Shahib & friends, alongside a special appearance by renowned Sape artist Anderson Kalang, affectionately known as “The Sape Shredder”, showcasing the distinctive sounds and traditions of Borneo through both contemporary and traditional performances.
Blending traditional Bornean sounds with modern influences, Anderson’s performance will highlight the cultural richness and creativity of East Malaysia while providing a fitting finale to ASAP by Lye’s 1st Anniversary celebrations and The Big Borneo Bash weekend. Together with the live band performances, guests can look forward to an evening that celebrates the diverse musical traditions of Sabah and Sarawak in an intimate and authentic Bornean setting.
