Penang caretaker government’s Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow will be sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Penang at the residence of the Governor of Penang at Seri Mutiara tomorrow at 9am. 

This is following the victory of the Pakatan Harapan party to secure 29 seats in the state elections.

It will be the second term for Chow to be the Chief Minister of Penang who also defended his Padang Kota seat comfortably.

“The win also serves to give a two third majority for the party in the state election. We wish to thank all of the candidates, workers, volunteers and the media who had worked hard,” said Chow in his victory speech.

He also added that with the win, they are able to form a unity government in Penang.

Also present was Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang, Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying, Lim Siew Khim (Sg Pinang), Zairil Khir Johari, Jagdeep Singh Deo, RSN Rayer (MP Jelutong), Daniel Gooi, Joshua Woo (Pulau Tikus), Teh Lai Heng (Komtar), Connie Tan (Seri Delima),  among others at the St Giles-Wembley here. 

When met by Penang Hyperlocal, Daniel Gooi thanked the voters of Padang Lalang who had placed the trust in him.

“I am honoured to have this opportunity to serve the people of Padang Lalang which is also my hometown.

“It was where I was born, grew up and got my education. The campaign was stressful but it was all worth it with this victory and I am motivated to carry out the job,” said Gooi to Penang Hyperlocal.  

Also present at the victory ceremony was Koid Teng Beng who had flown all the way from Texas, United States to vote at the state elections.

“I have been coming back to Penang for all of the elections. I believe that it is my duty to excercise my right to do so.  

“I have been working in the United States for the past 20 years, said Koid, who has his flight back to the US tomorrow morning. 

Meanwhile, Dato Khoo Boo Lim who is also the vice president of the Malaysian Association of Hotel (MAH national) added that the victory will bring stability to the state and the country overall.

“The stability will help attract more foreign investors to the country which in turn will benefit to offer new job opportunities and also contribute to the hospitality and tourism industry too,” said Khoo.
