Penang’s medical tourism industry received a boost with the Pantai Hospital Penang hosting its ground breaking ceremony for its expansion.
Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow officiated at the ground breaking ceremony of the RM400 million expansion of the Pantai Hospital Penang in Bayan Baru.
On hand was Member of Parliament for Bayan Baru, Sim Tze Tzin, Pantai Hospital chief executive officer, Pan Wek Lek and the IHH Malaysia Hospitals chief executive officer Jean Francois Naa.
The new facility in a 7-storey medical block will offer a range of comprehensive specialities and healthcare services.
It will be equipped with 117 beds, a total of 14 Intensive Care Units (ICUs)/ Critical Care Units (CCUs)/ High Dependency Units (HDUs), 36 consultation suites, five operating theatres, a cardiac catheterisation laboratory and four endoscopy rooms.
Its key specialities include stroke, heart, urology and orthopaedics.
Medical tourism is estimated to be worth around some RM500 million in revenue for 2017, according to data from the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council.
