Austrian semiconductor company AT&S plans to invest up to €2 billion (about US$2.32 Billion) or RM9.5 Billion to expand its manufacturing operations at the Kulim Hi-Tech Park here.
The project is expected to strengthen the country’s role in the global chip industry, create skilled jobs and support growing demand from artificial intelligence technologies.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said recently that the investment reflects international confidence in Malaysia, while AT&S said the expansion will support future growth with major technology partners.
The project is also expected to provide thousands of employment opportunities for locals. The move is to expand their current operations and meet customer demand.
“We will fully expand our site in Kulim,” the company’s CEO Michael Mertin told Reuters in an interview recently.
The investment will also support the local economy and ecosystem too.
