Eligible residents in Permatang Pasir on mainland Penang will now be able to enjoy affordable homes in their vicinity.
Present to launch the project was Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow, State Exco for Housing, Local Government, Town and Country Planning YB Jagdeep Singh Deo and YB Nurul Izzah MP for Permatang Pauh.
Others present were heads of departments and government officials.
Dubbed the ‘Jelajah Love Penang’ Programme, some 790 new affordable housing units from RM42,000 will be built.
“This is part of the 138,545 units of various affordable housing that have been, are being and have been approved to be built, out of our target of 220,000 units.
“The Federal Government must also supply affordable housing, whereby five plots of land have been identified but due to lack of response, we will develop two more projects ourselves.
“The high loan rejection rate for first-time affordable house buyers also needs to be answered by the Federal Government.
“Meanwhile, the introduction of the Rent To Own Schemes (RTO) targeting 22,000 units out of the entire target of 220,000 RMM units by 2030, will continue,” said Jagdeep at the launching ceremony.
Chow also stressed the importance of every citizen having a “roof over our heads” and the project will ensure such basic needs.
He hopes that the residents will take advantage of the affordable homes project to cater for their family.
