
A generous community leader and his supporters exemplified the spirit of goodwill and compassion by providing hearty vegetarian meals to some 1,500 devotees and visitors during the recent Wesak Day celebration.

As part of his longstanding commitment to community service and social responsibility, Nicky Sivananthan provided free meals to devotees and visitors at the Buddhist Temple along Jalan Perak, Penang.
The annual initiative, now in its 12th consecutive year, reflects Sivananthan’s dedication to fostering social cohesion, promoting compassion and supporting the wellbeing of communities regardless of race, religion, or background. The food distribution programme was organised to serve the large number of worshippers who gathered at the temple to commemorate one of Buddhism’s most significant religious occasions.

According to Sivananthan, the programme is more than a charitable activity, it is a community-focused effort aimed at bringing people together while ensuring that visitors are welcomed and cared for during the celebration.
“When a person’s basic needs are met, it creates a sense of comfort, dignity and happiness. Contributing to the wellbeing of others has always been an important part of my personal and social responsibility. The continued support and encouragement from members of the community inspire me to sustain this initiative year after year,” he said.
The programme was supported by several friends. demonstrating the importance of collective volunteerism and community partnerships in delivering meaningful social impact.

Sivananthan noted that he allocates dedicated resources annually to ensure the continuity of the initiative, which he regards as a personal commitment towards community development and humanitarian service.
