The Penang state government in promoting an all inclusive society, contributed RM28,888 towards the Autism Acceptance Campaign 2025 to be held on April 26, 2025 at the Prangin Mall here.

Penang Deputy Chief Minister 11 in announcing the contribution towards the worthy cause said that every one in the community must come forward for the people with special needs and also for the needy community.

“Autism is a spectrum of neurodevelopmental conditions which calls for the members of the public for their understanding and support,” added Jagdeep.

A press conference was held at his office in Komtar attended by the organisers and sponsors of the campaign.

Present was Katherine Koo, chairman of Penang Shine Like Stars Association and her team members. Incidentally, they are hosting their 8th annual Autism Acceptance Campaign this year.

The theme for this year is “Empower Abilities, Inspiring Futures” and it hopes to raise awareness, promote inclusion and celebrate the unique strengths of individuals on the autism spectrum.

Some 80 children are expected to take part in the various activities like Colouring Contest, a Special Needs Art & Craft Exhibition, a DIY Spices Workshop by LemmeLearn, a Science & Technology Workshop, a physical learning activity called “Move, Balance & Think: A Whole-Body Learning Workshop” among others.

A Charity Food & Fun Fair will also run featuring 40 stalls offering Penang delights and merchandise, including eight game booths for family-friendly fun. 

Charity coupons will be available at RM20 and RM50 per booklet to support the campaign’s fundraising goal of RM80,000, which will go towards covering the association’s rental, activity fund, and assistance to other special needs organizations.

These activities aim to highlight the talents of individuals with autism while encouraging community participation and engagement.

Meanwhile, Koo, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Penang state government for the generous contribution and also to the agencies, corporate sponsors, educational institutions, and individuals who have supported the campaign. 

“Our mission is to empower abilities and inspire futures. This campaign is a platform to celebrate differences, raise awareness, and foster meaningful integration between individuals with autism and the wider community,” she said. “We hope this event will inspire the public to lend a helping hand in creating a more compassionate and inclusive society,” she added.
