After a long hiatus of 16-years, Air India resumed its direct flights to Kuala Lumpur.
A welcoming ceremony was held to mark the arrival of the airline at KLIA led by Deputy Tourism Malaysia chairman Dato Yeoh Soon Hin.
He was representing Tourism Minister Dato’ Sri Tiong to welcome the inaugural Air India flight to Malaysia.
The resumption of service will see daily flights from New Delhi to Kuala Lumpur.
“Building upon the recent visit of our Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim to India, which paved the way for strengthening India-Malaysia bilateral ties through a multi-sectoral cooperation agenda, we are eager to promote tourism mutually between both nations.
“In the first seven months of 2024, Malaysia saw a notable influx of 624,312 Indian visitors, demonstrating an impressive 84.5% growth over 2023,” said Yeoh.
Also present was Abraham Alexander Zachariah, Vice President for International Airport Operations for Air India, Rajesh H Maniyil, First Secretary (Consular, Passport & Visa) from Indian High Commission and the Director General of Tourism Malaysia, Manoharan Periasamy and their respective.
Incoming passengers were also presented with goody bags at the arrival hall.
Surely the arrival of Air India flights will serve to boost the country’s overall tourism sector.
