The Crime Consciousness & Public Safety Society (CCPSS) is a non- governmental organisation (NGO) which aims to instill peace and greater sense of safety in the community.
Founded in Oct 8, 2020, their vision is to reduce the risks of crime victimisation and increase cooperation between the community and public safety authorities.
They also aim to instill greater public consciousness on the vulnerability of crime victimization and increase understanding of public safety by sharing knowledge and promoting and fostering cooperation between the community and public safety authorities.
Among their initiatives include working with Parent-Teacher Associations, Collaboration with Residents Associations, Interact with corporations, network with other like minded groups, engage with authorities and also harness media platforms.
In a recent interview by Penang Hyperlocal with CCPSS chairman Dato Anil Shah, he added that they formed the NGO because there are a lot things to be done in terms of crime awareness and public safety although there are other organisations currently involved in the areas
“CCPSS seeks to collaborate and compliment like minded organisations in these areas of public safety.
“As a former senior police officer having served in the Royal Malaysian Police over a span of 35 years which included serving in various capacities and departments such as commercial crime, narcotics, gangsterism, anti vice, prosecution, I had also served as a pioneer member of the parole board under the Home Affairs Ministry.
“Besides this, I was also given the opportunity of working closely as director of police services of the ASEANAPOL Secretariat which involved liaison with international police organisations such as INTERPOL, EUROPOL, for a period of three years.

“I had also served as the head of International relations, IGP’s secretariat in Bukit Aman, OCPD of SPT and prior to retirement served as the head of crime prevention and community safety department in Penang.
“In recognition of these services, I was awarded with the DMPN ( Dato) title from Penang starting in 2022 and the DIMP from the state of Pahang in 2016.
“As far as funding for our association, we have donors and well wishers and voluntary contributions from our own members particularly when it involves school children and community activities.
“The strength of CCPSS is in the close cooperation and the sense of belonging amongst about 220 active members,” said Anil adding that they also share daily tips on safety and crime everyday on the CCPSS facebook page.
They have the honour of having the Governor of Penang, Tun Dato’ Seri Utama Ahmad Fuzi Haji Abdul Razak as their patron.
