Penang State Exco for Youth, Sports and Health YB Daniel Gooi officiated the opening ceremony of the 32nd International Congress of the Obstetrical & Gynaecological Society (OGSM) of Malaysia at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre earlier today.

The society was established in 1963 and have a total of 1600 active members.

Welcoming their guest-of-honour was Dr Muniswaran Ganeshan OGSM president, Dr R M Udayar Pandian Ramachandhiran, organizing chairman, committee members and their team.

The theme for this year’s meet is “Embracing Diversity & Inspiring Change”. 

Gooi in his opening address extended a warm welcome to all the distinguished guests, respected delegates, speakers, and participants from Malaysia and across the globe.

“This congress serves as a platform not only to discuss the latest clinical advancements and research, but also to highlight the ongoing challenges we face from improving maternal health outcomes, to addressing fertility issues, access to care, and emerging technologies in obstetrics and gynaecology.

“I am also pleased to share that the Federal Government has allocated RM 758 million for three major healthcare projects at Penang Hospital. This includes RM 307 million for a new Women and Children’s Block, RM 23 million for a dedicated Stem Cell Services Block, and RM 428 million for a new Specialist Clinic and Ward Block.

“These significant investments reflect a shared commitment at both national and state levels to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and delivering inclusive, high-quality care for women, children and families in Penang,” added Gooi.

He also reminded delages to take in the sights and sceneries of the Pear of the Orient, not forgetting its tasty durians too.

Gooi later toured the various booths set up by the various pharmacies. In all, there were 80 booths and a total of 90 speakers at the gathering.
