Tourism industry players at the press conference giving their thumbs up

There is all round excitement with the impending Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) between Penang-Singapore which kicks off tomorrow (Wednesday March 16, 2022).

The overall economy of the state, food & beverage outlets, hotels, tourism spots, trishaw riders as well as other transportations providers are expected to gain from the move.

In line with this, Penang Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy, YB Yeoh Soon Hin held a press conference at the Malaysia Hotel in Georgetown today to announce the preparations and safety measures in place.

Lending support was Singapore Airlines Station Manager Penang, L Ravindran, Malaysia Airlines Area Manager Northern, Lisa Wong, Ken Tan (AirAsia) and from Scoot Airlines, Radzman Abdul Razak were present.

Also seen was the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Penang Director Jonathan Freddy Bagang, Tourism Malaysia Northern Region Director, Shahrul Aman Sabir Ahmad, Penang Global Tourism Chief Executive officer Ooi Chok Yan, Penang International Airport Senior Airport Manager, Nadzim Hashim, Allen Tan representing Association of Tourism Attractions Penang (ATAP) among others.

“The Penang International Airport (PIA) has received the global Airport Health Accreditation from the Airports Council (ACI), that certifies airport health and safety measures are on par with international standards.

“We have also done an inspection at PIA earlier this month to ensure this. The VTL scheme plays a pivotal role prior to the full resumption of international tourism as it serves as a benchmark for future international traveling activities,” said Yeoh.

He also added that some 86.2% of Penang’s population have been fully vaccinated making it the second highest in Malaysia after Klang Valley.

To this regard some 65 of Penang’s tourism industry players from hotels, attractions and shopping malls have been granted Covid-19 Safety Accreditation Programme.
