More good news for the tourism industry and its stakeholdres in Penang.

The State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Yeoh Soon Hin announced that China Southern Airlines will resume the Guangzhou-Penang direct flight, starting from March 1st  2023. 

He said that China has the world’s highest outbound tourism expenditure and China Southern Airlines’ resumption of direct flights between Guangzhou and Penang will foster more confidence in the Penang tourism market. 

“China Southern Airlines has been flying to Penang ever since 1991, which makes it 32 years since it has opened the air route between China and Penang. With long-term cooperation and closed-door discussions between PETACE and China Southern Airlines, we welcome China Southern Airlines to resume Guangzhou-Penang flight route during the easing of China’s cross-border restrictions. This is certainly exciting news for local tourism industry players.” said Yeoh in a press statement.

He also added that the resumption of the air connectivity between Penang and China was his obligation to help all tourism operators in the state. Through the networking platform, PETACE has been constantly searching to establish the market presence and popularity of Penang in China. 

We also adapt to the current trends and Tik Tok to promote “Experience Penang” in China. Up to now, Penang Global Tourism’s Tik Tok account has over 200,000 followers. Besides, PETACE is also planning to launch a series of online and offline promotional strategies in Northern, Central and Southern China this year. 

China Southern Airlines will fly directly from Guangzhou to Penang at 5:25 p.m. daily on 1st of March, and it is expected to arrive at Penang International Airport around 9.00 p.m. Moreover, starting from 2nd of March, it departs from Penang International Airport to Guangzhou every morning at 9:05 am and is expected to arrive in Guangzhou at 12:35 noon.
