With Chinese New Year just around the corner, State Exco for Housing, Local Government, Town and Country Planning YB Jagdeep Singh Deo made a walkabout around the Jalan Kuantan market yesterday morning.
The market was a hive of activity as those celebrating the Chinese New Year were busy doing their last minute marketing in preparation of the Year of the Rabbit.
Jagdeep brought good news that the market serving the residents nearby will be getting an upgraded market soon.
He announced that apart from RM170,400 allocated last year, another RM500,000.00 has been approved for further upgrading works here.
“As we celebrate the Chinese New Year, we are committed to deliver proper services to Penangites which is our priority.
“This includes public facilities such as public markets, whereby to-date we have 60 in our five districts.
“We will ensure they are constantly upgraded whereby we have allocated RM82 million since 2008 for public markets throughout the state,” said Jagdeep in the press conference.
He also added that they have requested the Federal Government to assist us in terms of delivery and maintenance of such public facilities whereby the meeting with our Minister from Housing and Local Government Minister has been scheduled on Feb 6, 2023 in Penang.
In the meantime, he also took the opportunity to distribute Mandarin oranges to folks in the market area and also to some of his officials celebrating CNY.
