Penang State Exco for Housing,Local Government, Town and Country Planning, Yb Jagdeep Singh Deo gave his assurance that the garbage collection issue of late will be resolved as soon as possible.
“We have procured the services of three more new trucks to resolve this issue which has caused some discomfort to residents.We are also in the process of appointing new contractors. In this transitional period, there will be some hiccups.
“On top of this, we are adding more personnel from the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) to add on to the current workforce. We are currently collecting 700 tons of garbage daily in the state.
“In keeping with our slogan of Cleaner, Greener Penang, we will ensure that the state is always clean and green,” said Jagdeep at a press conference at Lebuh Carnarvon.
Also present was MBPP Secretary Dato A. Rajendran and several of the councillors.
Rajendran added that the council has now taken over the collection of garbage in two zones, namely Batu Uban and Pantai Jerejak and another at Seri Delima and Ayer Itam with effect this Tuesday, Jan 10, 2023.
He also shared that the Balik Pulau zone had always been directly under the MBPP preview for garbage collection.
“We will strive to do better and overcome the matter soon while MBPP will also offer back-up service to the contractor,” said Rajendran.
