Veteran hotelier, Derrick Tan is back in Penang to meet up with his old colleagues and friends on this trip.
Tan is now based in Manila as the general manager of the St Giles Makati – A St Giles Hotel in Manila.
He was the former general manager of the Bayview Hotel Georgetown till the mid-2014.
Over the years he had groomed many hoteliers who have now gone on to become Director of Sales and Marketing, Food and Beverage Director and even general managers in Penang.
On this trip, he also attended the annual dinner of the two Bayview Hotels in Penang, namely the Bayview Hotel Georgetown and the Bayview Beach Resort where some 350 staff members gathered.
Joining him on this trip was his son, Marks Anthony Tan.
“It is always good to be back to Penang as there are so many friends and colleagues who have worked with me during my days here.
“Many still keep in touch with me although I am now based in Manila. That is why I make a trip here whenever I can”, said Tan to Penang Hyperlocal.
He was even invited to an early birthday party at the Hompton Beach Hotel hosted by its general manager Steven Suffian and his team.
Suffian was the Food & Beverage manager serving under Tan at the Bayview Hotel Georgetown back then.
Those who remember the popular Carmen’s Inn and the Bayview Hotel Georgetown lobby lounge will remember the live band performances and party days back then.
While here, he also met up with Lynn Choong (general manager Bayview Hotel Georgetown), Karen Vijayal (Eastin Hotel Penang), Chef Bill among many others.
One of his tutelages is Puah Kim Aun, now VP for Operations and Performance at Manila Ocean Park and Hotel H2O.
Do look up Tan if you are in Metro Manila which is a vibrant business district and offers some 512 rooms and is located in the heart of Makari City.
Among their facilities includes their restaurant & bar, rooftop swimming pool, gym, meeting rooms etc.
The hotel is also very close to surrounding restaurants, hotels, bars, lounges and malls in the capital city of the Philippines.
