The Buddhist Tzu-Chi Merits Society Malaysia again displayed its agility and tenacity to adapt and respond to different phases of the fight against the on-going Covid-19 pandemic.
Today, they handed over a ventilator, patient monitor and two syringe pumps for the ICU unit at the Penang General Hospital.
The team was led by their commissioner, Khoo Boo Leong.
“Since the onset of Covid-19 pandemic last year, Tzu-Chi has been rendering support to medical facilities and front liners.
“Our organization has donated medical equipment to hospitals and personal protective equipment (PPE) to front liners. We are prepared to be able to adapt and respond to different phases of the pandemic,” said Khoo.
He also added that in April 2020, they helped set-up a homeless shelter together with Penang State Government at Kompleks Masyarakat Penyayang (KMP) for three months. Later, they presented PPEs and 500 multi purpose foldable beds, mattresses, pillows, blankets and food to the Penang Remand Prison under MCO.
This was followed up with the setting up of the quarantine centre at KMP and later another quarantine centre at Jawi.
“Since Feb this year, we have provided medical equipment for quarantine centres and ICU wards. From June, we have provided swab tests ( Rapid Antigen Test) for Tzu Chi staff, patients, care recipients, volunteers, donors and family members.
“To-date we have also given emergency aid to some 38,028 needy people,” he added.
