Finally, trishaw peddlers and taxi drivers were given their vaccinations in a bid to create herd immunity in Penang.
The ceremony was held at the pop-up vaccination centre at the Dewan Sri Pinang this morning (July 25, 2021).
On hand to witness the vaccination and give morale support was Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and state exco for Tourism and Creative Economy, Yeoh Soon Hin.
“The trishaw peddlers and taxi drivers are among the vulnerable and high risk communities that are not forsaken.
“The occasion also saw the handing over of daily necessities, complimentary haircut services, medical checkup and licensing,” said Yeoh.
He added that the vaccination programme is a joint-effort between the Penang State Government, health authorities, government agencies, private companies and volunteer organisations.
“This is a momentous milestone for Penang as it greatly helps in accelerating our pace towards herd immunity.
“It is also a good opportunity for us to recalibrate our progress in tourism as vaccines are a drawcard in gaining confidence and faith among travellers,”
“This one-stop vaccination centre that streamlines all relevant initiatives under one roof is an example of a coordinated effort, and the epitome of the 3P partnership that encompasses the public, private and people,” he added.
Yeoh also added that although international tourism is still far-fetched, it is vital for us to think ahead, plan ahead and act ahead.
