In another first of its kind in the country, the Penang State Government has implemented the Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate and Release (TNVR) initiative to ensure the humane treatments of our furry friends.
Leading the charge is Penang Island City Councillor, Connie Tan who has taken up the challenge to safeguard the well-being of these animals.
She has also authored a book entitled “Pawsible” to draw attention to the plight of dogs.
Present to launch the book at the Gurney Plaza was Penang State Exco for Housing, Local Government, Town and Country Planning YB Jagdeep Singh Deo accompanied by a list of Members of Parliament and state assemblymen.
He also contributed RM11,000 towards the worthy cause.
Among those lending support were Ram Karpal Singh (MP for Bukit Gelugor) Steven Sim (MP for Bukit Mertajam).
The state assemblymen present were Chris Lee (Pulau Tikus), Joseph Ng (Air Itam) and Lim Siew Kim (Sungai Pinang). Representing the Penang Island City Council was their secretary A. Rajendran.
In his speech, Jagdeep congratulated Tan for her commendable work and expressed his support from his office.
“Nothing is impossible if we set our minds to it. Keep up the good work and we will support your project,” he added.
The programme has also received support from the Penang Island City Council, non-governmental organisations and other stakeholders.
