The Millen Penang Autograph Collection held its official opening ceremony today with a host of dignitaries and guests.

Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow was on hand to launch the 5-star hotel. Welcoming him was the general manager of the hotel Catherine Townsend along with George Varughese, Market Vice President at Marriott International Malaysia.

Others present were YB Lim Guan Eng, Member of Parliament for Bagan, Dato  Seri Law Choo Kiang, Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly, State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy Yb Wong Hon Wai, Tan Sri H’ng Bok San, Dato Sean H;ng, Datin Seri Jessica H’ng and a host of dignitaries.

In his address Chow said that he is pleased to join all of the guests for the grand opening of The Millen—the very first Autograph Collection hotel in Penang.

“To some, this may simply be the launch of another hotel.But to me, it represents something much greater. It is a clear sign of how far Penang has transformed into a natural magnet for the global hospitality industry.

“This growth in the hospitality industry is a very good sign, I also hope it translates into more meaningful opportunities for our people—creating new jobs for Penangites, while uplifting the wider community. From artisans and hawkers to restaurants and young entrepreneurs, this is how tourism can truly become an engine of shared prosperity,” said Chow.

He also added that the Millen captures the charm of our past while embracing the vibrancy of the present. 

“I also warmly welcome more distinguished names such as Marriott International to continue investing in Penang, together, we can raise our standing as a premier global destination,” he added.

Meanwhile Sean H’ng said – “The opening of The Millen reflects our unwavering commitment to redefining luxury hospitality while honouring Penang’s heritage. The VIP guests later joined hands to perform the ribbon cutting ceremony and presentation of mementos.

The 146-room hotel reinterprets the grandeur of a bygone era while embracing the pulse of today. HNG Capital Sdn Bhd acquired the hotel building in 2016. For many years, it was known as The Northam All Suite Hotel, once regarded as one of Penang’s finest luxury hotels. In 2020, the Group embarked on a complete transformation through a major renovation and  rebranding exercise.
