Other than local talents, a myriad of talents from the United Kingdom, Singapore, Iran, Spain, Indonesia, the United States, Brazil, France, Poland and India will be on show.
The virtual programmes will kick-start from July 10 till July 18, 2021.
“Among the online programmes showcased are digital theatre, chinese orchestra music, online audio-immersive theatre, short film festival, video art screening, virtual projection mapping, docudrama screening, exhibitions etc.
“Penang has maneuvered and explored different methods of festival-making. By harnessing the limitless potential of technology, GTF 2021 will connect local talents with creatives from various continents and countries,” said State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy, Yeoh Soon Hin in a press statement.
He also added that the GTF 2021 will continue its decade-long legacy as the state’s forerunner in the creative ecosystem, by redefining festival-making in the new normal to continue inspiring generations of art-lovers and practitioners.
“Although the physical events had to cease due to the sharp uptick of Covid-19 cases in the nation, we wanted to keep the true essence and emphasis of GTF – accessibility of arts to all walks of life,” he added.
Yeoh stressed that GTF’s core value is to promote inclusivity for all, which also means making the arts accessible in times of pandemic and restriction measures.
“Though we harbour hopes to strategically re-flourish our creative scene in a post-pandemic era, the show and momentum must go on despite our current circumstances,” he added.
