Award-winning Seven Terraces Hotel and Kebaya Dining Room celebrated its 10th anniversary with a select group of guests recently.
The fine dining restaurant had also hosted Prince Charles (now King Charles 111) who had also dined at the popular restaurant during his visit to Penang.
They put out a specially prepared menu and fine champagne and wine for guests.
In his speech, founder Chris Ong shared his journey since 2012 when they started to renovate the property.
“I was passionate about Peranakan and Straits settlement decorations which can be seen today.
“I am happy to see all my friends and supporters here. For me it’s like coming home since I was away for 30 years.
“The property was an eye sore but had invested in the property in 2008. The project became an obsession to renovate and restore. The journey was not an easy one and we even had a demolition order from the council.
“I thank everyone for being part of the journey and we are happy to play our role in the community. I am also happy to play a part in restoring the intangible heritage in Georgetown and in a small way happy to restore this building,” said Ong.
He also shared that during the Covid-19 pandemic they did not lay off their staff and they did that journey with him.
“Some have been with me for 10 or 20 years in his Sri Lanka property. I thank the staff and crew and everyone for making time to celebrate with us,” he added.
