The Selangor State Government has not been ignoring the challenges faced by Selangor’s tourism industry players as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
If the previous year saw Selangor State Government allocating RM 2.6 million to the tourism industry through Selangor’s Economic Recovery Plan 2020; this year, there is a new hope for the tourism industry in Selangor with the announcement of the Kita Selangor 2.0 Package by the Menteri Besar of Selangor, on June 9, 2021.
Kita Selangor 2.0 Package which allocates RM 2.55 million to Selangor’s tourism industry comprises a RM 1 million allocation Grant for Selangor Tourism Programs or Activities, another RM 1 million allocation for Selangor’s Tourism Voucher 2.0, RM300,000.00 for Selangor Tourism Digitization Learning Training Programme, and “One-Off”; Financial Aid to 17 Tourism Associations in Selangor with a total allocation of RM255,000.00, which was officially handed-over in a virtual ceremony.
The ceremony which was aired live on Tourism Selangor’s official Facebook Page was officiated by Mr. Hee Loy Sian, Selangor’s Executive Council Member of Tourism and Environment.
Joining alongside Mr. Hee Loy Sian were Mr Azrul Shah Mohamad, General Manager of Tourism Selangor and Mr Ishak Maulan, Deputy Director of the Local Authority Section, Selangor Economic Planning Unit (UPEN), and representatives from 17 Selangor’s Tourism Associations.
“It is the hope of the Selangor State Government that this incentive channeled to Selangor’s 17 Tourism Associations today will be able to some extent help redevelop the State tourism industry. Hopefully, it will provide an opportunity for the Tourism Associations to continue providing support to their members,” said Hee in a press statement.
“This is to ensure the sustainability of Selangor’s tourism industry, at the same time supporting the Pusing Selangor Dulu Campaign which is being actively-promoted by the Selangor State Government through Tourism Selangor,” added Hee.
Pusing Selangor Dulu Campaign emphasizes domestic tourism promotional initiatives which involve partnerships with Selangor’s tourism industry players such as hoteliers, travel agencies, airlines and the media.
Tourism Selangor is also actively-promoting this Campaign on its website, and across its social media platform; Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and YouTube channel with the usage of the #PusingSelangorDulu hashtag which is growing in popularity among social media users.
