The Romanian ambassador to Malaysia made an official visit to Penang to meet state heads and see for herself the attractions here.
Her Excellency, Mrs Nineta Barbulescu also made visits to the Governor of Penang, Tun Dato Seri Utama Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, the State Assembly Speaker among others.
She was accompanied by her spouse, Dan Barbulescu who is also the Honorary Advisor.
Meanwhile, State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Yeoh Soon Hin hosted the ambassador to a high-tea session at The TOP Penang.
The scenic panoramic view from the TOP served to be a perfect location for the gathering.
“Partnership and bilateral relations are strong anchors in developing Penang’s tourism sector especially in the post pandemic era.
“It is time for Penang to explore new and untapped markets to yield and attract new streams of tourists, visitors and investments,” said Yeoh.
He also added that the East European and European market in general will be a great market for Penang.
Among the areas of interest include trade, renewable energy and sister city agreements.
On her part, the Romanian ambassador said that they are opportunities for Penang and Romania to work on, especially on the solar panel industry, port and signing of sister city arrangements.
“I am impressed with Penang and the multicultural society and its attractions. We will also explore signing of MOUs with local universities.
“I will surely come back to Penang to take in the culture and local attractions which are unique,” she said, adding that Romania has the 3rd fastest internet connectivity in the world after Singapore and Hong Kong.
