The federal government has been urged to immediately look into the Penang state government’s request for the allocation of funds for ensuring affordable homes and their maintenance.
The repeated call was made by Penang State Exco for Housing, Local Government, Town and Country Planning, YB Jagdeep Singh Deo at a press conference.
Meanwhile, this time around, he brought great news for residents at Blocks 48, 50 and 52 in Taman Sri Hijau for the upgrading of five lifts at a cost of RM385,000.
“Due to limited funds and numerous requests for assistance, we carry out numerous assistance projects within our capacity.
“However, we have managed to implement our maintenance at all of our public housing projects, council projects and also eligible private projects.
We have completed 32,582 projects amounting to RM 297.57 million. Our request to the Federal Government to assist, our request of RM134.76 million has yet to be addressed.
“To-date, we have only received RM8.481 million. Housing must never be politicised and we hope the Federal Government will also assist.
“We will continue with our priority to ensure there is adequate affordable housing for all ranging not only from RM 42,000.00 to RM 300,000.00 but also rent-to-own. To-date we have arrived at 136,333 units from our target of 220,000 units from our vision Penang 2030,” added Jagdeep.
