The Chinese New Year and the Year of the Rabbit was welcomed at the Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa and the Golden Sands Resort with the roaring rhythms of traditional lion dance recently.
After two subdued years due to the pandemic, both resorts once again hosted the auspicious performance to usher in good tidings for Chinese New Year.
Lending presence was general manager Markus Christ and all members of the Executive Committee who performed an eye-dotting ceremony at the driveways, witnessed by hundreds of guests from all over in keeping with annual tradition.
The majestic lions then roared to life, prancing, leaping and dancing as they made their way round the resort’s reception area, admin offices, restaurant, recreation area and function rooms for a ritual blessing.
The blaring clash of cymbals, rhythmic pounding of war drums and thunderous beat of gongs was heard all the way to the Batu Ferringhi beach.
The lion dance was performed by the national champion troupe from Chin Xing Sports and Cultural Centre.
The display ended with a dazzling show in the garden where guests took lots of videos and photos. The God of Prosperity also made an appearance to give out gold chocolate coins.
A 16-member dragon dance troupe also impressed with fluid movements in tune with pounding drums, while a face-changing magician put up a spectacular performance to end the show.
Over at Golden Sands Resort, the traditional lion dance performance on high poles ranging between one to three meters high.
The show concluded with a tossing Yee Sang at the lobby by guests and resort colleagues for luck and prosperity.
