Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi took the trouble to fly all the way to Penang to meet Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim earlier this afternoon.
The meeting was held at the iconic Eastern & Oriental Hotel here.
It was reported that Anwar had told Wang Yi that he will not be in Putrajaya due to his state elections commitments.
To this, Wang Yi said that he will meet Anwar at the location convenient for him. Thus, the meeting in Penang.
On hand to greet Wang Yi was Penang caretaker government’s Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir, Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, Vice Consul General Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Penang, Mdm Ding Qiao among other dignitaries.
Roads leading to and around the E&O Hotel saw heavy presence of security personnel and traffic police presence.
