To cater for the growing number of tourists from China, Indonesia and Singapore, the Zui Ma Tou Hotpot opened its new outlet at the Sunway Carnival Mall yesterday.

Present at the ceremony was the State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Wong Hon Wai and the outlet’s managing director of Synergy Dining Group, Alex Yap.

Wong congratulated the group on the opening of their new outlet and shared that it is the first Zui Ma Tou Hotpot branch in northern Malaysia.

“Food enthusiasts from both Penang and Seberang Perai can conveniently savour the spicy and flavourful cuisine from Chengdu, Sichuan, enjoying authentic Sichuan hotpot.

“Zui Ma Tou Hotpot integrates various classic Sichuan dishes into its hotpot, creating a unique and innovative Sichuan hotpot experience. Furthermore, the Penang branch of Zui Ma Tou Hotpot has introduced exclusive dishes such as Tiger Prawn Shrimp Paste and beef tongue, which are only available in Penang. I believe this will not only bring a new culinary experience to hotpot lovers in Penang but also enrich the local dining culture.

“Penang has always been a favourite destination for Chinese tourists. After Indonesia and Singapore, China ranks third in terms of tourists visiting Penang. Penang welcomed 5,655 Chinese tourists, marking a 162.2% increase from the 2,157 visitors in the same period last year.

“Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China, and the official visit of the Premier of the People’s Republic of China Li Qiang to Malaysia, several cooperation agreements and memoranda of understanding have been signed between the two countries.

“Additionally, there are several direct flights from China to Penang, such as flights from Xiamen, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and Shanghai. Next month, we will welcome the inaugural flight from Shenzhen Airlines flying directly to Penang.

“Moreover, I am traveling to Hong Kong for a business trip to meet with the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of Hong Kong. The agenda includes an inspection of the longstanding Hong Kong Dragon Boat Race and negotiations with another Hong Kong-based airline to explore the possibility of opening another direct flight route from Hong Kong to Penang.

“With the negotiation efforts between Malaysia and China, the visa-free policy for Chinese people coming to Malaysia will be extended to 2026. Therefore, we can anticipate a continuous increase in Chinese tourists visiting Malaysia, especially Penang.

By the end of the evening the Synergy Dining Group also presented donations to various charity homes as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
