The Penang International Food Festival 2025 (PIFF) @ Tanjong reached its lively finale with an impressive showcase of booths set up by various hotels, renowned eateries, and independent food operators along the iconic Beach Street here in George Town last night.
The vibrant stretch was transformed into a bustling culinary avenue, drawing both locals and tourists eager to indulge in Penang’s celebrated food culture.
The closing ceremony was graced by Deputy Finance Minister YB Lim Hui Ying who is also the Member of Parliament for Tanjong, State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Wong Hon Wai, as well as a host of other distinguished state officials.
Among them was veteran politician Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang, YB Wong Yuee Harng, assemblyman for Pengkalan Kota, YB Teh Lai Heng, (Komtar), Penang Island City Council Mayor Dato A Rajendran, Penang Global Tourism CEO Ooi Chok Yan, Tourism Malaysia Northern Region Director Abdul Hadi Che Man. Also preset was the Consul General People’s Republic of China in Penang Mr Zhou Youbin and the Consul General Japan in Penang Mr Shinya Machida

IN her address Lim shared that PIFF @ Tanjong 2025 was organised to unite Penangites and visitors in celebrating our unique culinary identity.
“Tanjong is truly a special part of Penang — home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a scenic waterfront, creative communities, and vibrant public spaces.Through this Festival, we wanted everyone to not only taste the flavours of George Town, but also rediscover the many charms that make Tanjong such a dynamic and distinctive heart of our state,” she added.
Meanwhile Wong, .congratulated YB Lim Hui Ying and the entire Tanjong team for the success of the PIFF 2025.
“Their dedication, coordination, and tireless hard work have been the backbone of this year’s festival. Thank you for ensuring that PIFF continues to shine as Penang’s iconic celebration of flavours, culture, and community.
“The Penang State Government continues to strengthen our position as a leading gastronomic hub in the region. Through strategic initiatives, international partnerships, and strong industry support, Penang proudly promotes the diversity and richness of our culinary heritage,” added Wong.
Visitors to the festival were treated to an extensive spread of local favourites and international delights, offering a true feast for the senses. From traditional Penang street food to modern fusion cuisine, there was something to satisfy every palate.
Government agencies and popular food establishments from across the city also took part, adding to the diversity and richness of the offerings.
As the event coincided with the weekend, families, food enthusiasts and tourists flocked to Beach Street to relish not only the array of dishes but also the festive atmosphere.
Laughter, live performances and the aroma of delicious food filled the air, making it a memorable finale to this year’s PIFF celebration. Highlight of the closing ceremony was the grand fireworks display.
