Upping the ante to draw more international tourists to Penang, the Penang Global Tourism and Trip.Com Group signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to this effect.

The partnership will elevate Penang beyond Asia to countries like the UK, and the US.

“It is a momentous occasion to see the signing of the MOU between two prestigious entities. 

Lending presence was Penang caretaker government’s Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow along with committee chairman for Tourism and Creative, Yeoh Soon Hin.

Others present was Datin S Barathi (CMI general manager), Dato Khoo Boo Lim (MAH national vice chairman), Tony Goh (MAH Penang chairman), Mondi Mecja (country general manager Ascott Group), Ben Ho (MAH Penang vice chairman), John Kim (MAH Penang secretary) and Dennis Lee (MAH Penang).

Others were Penang MATTA chairman Carolyn Leong, Andy Lau (Mybha), Allen Tan (Penang Hill), Ken Tan (AirAsia), Sharon Ang (GM Ascott Gurney Penang) among others.

Representing Trip.com was Bo Sun, Chief Marketing Officer accompanied by his team while PGT was represented by its CEO, Ooi Chok Yan.

“It is a momentous occasion to see the signing of the MOU between two prestigious entities,” said Chow. 

At this juncture, Chow paid tribute to Yeoh for his hard work and dedication which has seen tourism being where it is today.

“Yeoh’s hard work has paid off and now we see many tourists coming to Penang,” said Chow.

He also added that it is a momentous occasion to see the signing of the MOU between two prestigious entities. 

“The expansion of the Penang International Airport (PIA) and the expansion of the Penang Port will significantly increase our connectivity and accommodate a higher number of visitors.

“The much awaited LRT project will also help ease traffic congestion and enhance overall mobility,” said Chow.

 The collaboration will also see Penang being promoted to travellers from global markets including mainland China, Singapore, South Korea, Japan and Australia.

Meanwhile, Bo Sun, Chief said that Trip.com Group and Penang Global Tourism have been long standing partners. 

“Together, we have weathered the challenges posed by the pandemic and our cooperation has become even closer. We remain committed to developing a diverse range of products and expanding the market for Penang,” added Bo.
