Penang State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Yeoh Soon Hin welcomes the call for visa-on-arrival as proposed by the Minister of Tourism.
“Implementing visa-on-arrival is important to keep the Malaysian tourism sector competitive and vibrant along with its Southeast Asian peers.
“I support the recent remark made by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing to allow visa-on-arrival for all countries entering our borders.
“The Penang State Government has been taking various initiatives to bring back tourists to Penang but our country as a whole is still struggling to catch up with our neighbouring countries,” said Yeoh in a press statement.
Yeoh also added that Malaysia needs to implement proactive measures such as visa-on-arrival for visitors to our country to streamline the visa application process and make it easier for travellers to visit and explore all that our country has to offer.
“With this option available, visitors can obtain their visas upon arrival at the various airports, eliminating the need to apply in advance. I am confident that with this change, it can boost tourism and further promote Malaysia as a welcoming and accessible tourism destination in the world.”
Reflecting on the unprecedented crisis that hit the sector in 2020, Yeoh believes that changes and adaptation must be put in place and rethink how we move forward the tourism sector in Malaysia.
