After such a long time, the days of beauty pageants are back with the world finals of the Miss Asia Global 2022 being held in Penang.
The international pageant will see the participation of beauties from more than 40 countries all over the world.
Among the contestants are from Brazil, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Philippines, Finland, Australia, Bhutan, Mongolia, Colombia, Czech Republic, France, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Netherlands, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sri Lanka and of course Malaysia among others.
The initiative is part of the office of the state tourism and creative economy to bring the world to Penang.
The main sponsor of the event is URKLinik. who are specialists in skin pigmentation treatment and therapy.
They were represented by their chief executive officer Dr Fong Toh Jeng.
Meanwhile, State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy, YB Yeoh Soon Hin in his address welcomed the showcase as “bringing the world to Penang”.
“Beauty pageants connect cultures and communities from across the world through friendship.
“This pageant is a powerful catalyst to create long-lasting sisterhood and establish a united community that promotes mutual respect for the world’s distinctive culture, heritage and lifestyle.
“It is also the largest beauty pageant to be held on the island after two years of lockdown due to the pandemic,” added Yeoh.
The contestants took to the catwalk and introduced themselves to the guests gathered at the welcoming dinner.
Also present was Dato Syed Aidid, Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH national) vice president Dato Khoo Boo Lim, Penang Global Tourism (PGT) chief executive officer, Ooi Chok Yan, Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) CEO, Ashwin Gunasekeran, St-Giles Wembley general manager, Tony Goh among others.
The grand finals will be held on Saturday Sept 18, 2022 at the Setia Spice Convention Centre.
