The long awaited Penang Signature Gold (PSG) Fair 2022 was launched by Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow at the Setia Spice Convention Centre earlier today.
The three-day event showcases the latest designs, fashion and brings together manufacturers and traders.
A bevy of beauties paraded for a catwalk clad in the latest gold ornaments.
Also present was State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Yeoh Soon Hin, Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng, and Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) chief executive officer Ashwin Gunasekeran among others.
Others present were Ms Saudah Mat Isa, Director of Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) Northern Region, the COO of MYCEB, Noor Ahmad Hamid, and Dato’Chiah Hock Yew, President of Federation of Goldsmiths And Jewellers Associations Of Malaysia.
Chow in congratulating the organisers of the showcase added that the event is the only gold exhibition in South East Asia and in its 6th year to gather manufacturers and traders.
“The event also helps to create exposure to Penang’s gold craftsmanship as 80 % of the country’s gold manufacturing is from Penang. I also sall on stakeholders to capitalise the opportunities during the next three-days.
“Penang is a niche market for the gold industry and also contributes to the state and brings impact to the country’s economy,” said Chow in his speech.
Meanwhile, Datuk Johnson Lim Ceo Elite Expo Sdn Bhd made his opening remarks to welcome all to the fair which has been delayed due to the pandemic.
“It is a happy day to see and meet up with all of the manufacturers and traders in the industry,” he added.
His speech was followed by George Lo, the president of Penang Goldsmiths and Jewellers Association who shared the prestigious show to showcase Penang’s gold and his long history.
“There are some 400 medium and small industries in Penang. We hope to achieve the pre-pandemic levels of RM5.97 billion ringgit soon.
“Over the next few days there will be speakers and representatives from Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Nepal, Turkey and Singapore,” he added.
PSG Fair 2022 also features fine gemstones from all over the world.
