The Penang Internet Exchange (PIX) launching ceremony was officiated by Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow and Minister of Digital, YB Gobind Singh Deo at the JEN Hotel Penang.
The initiative is a collaboration between DE-CIX Malaysia and Digital Penang to position Penang as a leading digital hub in Southeast Asia.
Also present was YB Zairil Khir Johari, State Exco for Infrastructure, Transport and Digital, Wong Weng Yew, Board Member of DE-CIX Malaysia, Ivo Ivanov, CEO of DE-CIX Group AG and CEO of DE-CIX International, Ts. Ng Kwang Ming, CEO of Digital Penang, Mahadhir Aziz, CEO of MDEC, Dato’ Aziz bin Bakar, CEO of Penang Development Corporation and Datin S Barathi of CMI.
In his opening remarks, Chow said that Penang IX weaves a digital tapestry that empowers our people and propels us towards a digitally advanced state in alignment with Penang2030.
“We aim to cultivate an environment where our innovative citizens are equipped with the necessary tools to thrive in the digital age. This initiative serves as a testament to the Penang State Government’s commitment to technological progress, unlocking gateways to economic opportunities and positioning Penang as the digital hub within the region.
“This reliable infrastructure is poised to provide our homegrown startups with a resilient platform to accelerate their digital initiatives. Furthermore, the improved connectivity opens up new avenues for collaboration and data exchange among various creative and tech related businesses in the state,” he said.
Meanwhile, Gobind added that PIX’s role as a catalyst for economic growth is particularly significant. The strategic localization of Internet traffic is poised to attract investments and stimulate technology growth, positioning Penang as a key player in the regional digital landscape.

forefront of the digital revolution. The federal government has been steadfast in its commitment to advancing digital connectivity nationwide.
“As we witness the launch of PIX, we are strategically fostering an environment conducive to innovation and technological advancements,” he added.
Later, the VIP guests later joined hands to perform the launching ceremony on stage and also pose for the media.
