For the very first time, the 17th South East Asian Pipe Band Championship 2024 was held in Penang. 

The event was held at the St Xavier’s Institution in George Town. Previous competitions were held in Singapore.

Participants were from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Australia who came fully clad in traditional Scottish outfits along with their bagpipes. 

Penang was represented by the McNally Memorial Pipe Band.

Guest of honour was State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Wong Hon Wai.

He was welcomed by Brother Director Jason Blaikie and the school’s Board of Governors chairman Victor Tan.

Competition was held for the Solo Piping, Solo Drumming categories and the South East Asian Pipe Band Championships 2024.

The Sri Dasmesh Pipe Band from Kuala Lumpur was among the top winners.

The event served as an eye opener for the students and the audience who had gathered to witness the vibrant performances of the bands.
