The spanking new and towering Penang Marriott Hotel opened its doors for guests following its soft opening officiated by Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow.

On hand to welcome him was complex general manager Subash Basrur, Ramesh Jackson area VP Indonesia & Malaysia and their management team.

Also present was Penang DCM II YB Jagdeep Singh Deo State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Wong Hon Wai, Datuk Loh Kian Chong, Executive chairman of Oriental Holdings Bhd, Alfred Chew, Executive director of BSG Property Yaep Chin, director of BSG Property among others.

In his address, Chow highlighted that Penang is renowned as a jewel in Malaysia’s crown.

“The state government remains steadfast in its commitment to positioning Penang as a premier tourist destination in the country.

“We also welcomed nearly seven million passenger arrivals- an impressive recovery rate of 84.14% compared to pre- pandemic levels.

“The development of Penang Marriott holds immense potential for the economic, social and cultural advancement of the state”, said Chow.

Subash in the meantime was reminiscent of his first visit to Penang as a tourist in 2017 and became the general manager of the hotel.

“Our rooms and flavours at our restaurants along with our people will make the “magic” happen”, he quipped.

The massive building standing 55-storeys tall along the popular tourist belt is set to become the new iconic landmark along Gurney Drive.

The 5-star facility offer some 223 finely decorated rooms and suites.

Aning their facilities consist of the Sago lobby restaurant, Kucina Italian restaurant, Lava Lava swift to-go outlet, ballroom, gym, swimming pool among others.

The tower also houses the Marriott Executive Apartments and Marriott Residences.

With over 31 brands and nearly 8,700 properties across 139 countries, the Marriott brand also comes with its Marriott Bonvoy loyalty programme for the benefit of its guests.
