In appreciation of the hard work and dedication of the Penang Island City Council workers who help to keep the city clean and hygienic, a popular eatery hosted some 50 of its team to a fine dinner.
The unsung heroes were from the Municipal Services Department who carry out the “Difficult, Dirty and Dangerous” or “3D” functions to keep the city clean, hygienic and pleasant.
These are the people who are up when we are still asleep early in the morning to sweep the roads, pavements and dispose of the rubbish strewn around by the public.
The Bite N Eat Dindigul Biriyani and VKN Jewellers & MD Sdn Bhd have been carrying out this corporate social responsibility (CSR) for the past three years. The gathering was also in conjunction with the Labour Day celebrations.
Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow took time off from his busy schedule to attend the gathering and mingle with the workers.
He was welcomed by the owner of the outlet, Yuvabalan Sivasamy, the president of the Malaysian Associated Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MAICCI), Datuk Seri N. Gopalakrishnan and their committee members.
It should be noted that the Bite N Eat Dindigul Biriyani was also named in the 2023 Michelin Guide Malaysia recently.
Chow in his short address paid tribute to the workers who serve the community and residents in the city.
“Your work and dedication is much appreciated as you serve the community, people and the taxpayers. Keep up your good work and a happy Labour Day.
“I also congratulate the owners of this restaurant for their kind and meaningful gesture to show appreciation to these city council workers,” he added.
He later joined hands to perform a cake cutting ceremony and presented food vouchers so that the workers could also bring their family members for a fine dinner.
“We have been carrying out this CSR activity to show our appreciation for the hard working members of the city council. Only during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown we could not hold such gatherings.
“We want to extend our heartfelt appreciation for your continuous dedication and hard work in maintaining the cleanliness and livability of our area.
“Your unwavering commitment to your duties has contributed to the overall well-being of our community, making it a pleasant environment for residents, businesses and visitors alike.
“Your efforts do not go unnoticed and we are truly grateful for your role in ensuring that our surroundings remain clean and beautiful,” said Yuvabalan.
During the lockdown, they handed out food packets to those on duty like the police, RELA members and officers manning checkpoints during the lockdown.
Penang Hyperlocal congratulates Bite N Eat Dindigul Biriyani and VKN Jewellers & MD Sdn Bhd for their civic consciousness and much needed moral encouragement for the council workers.
Hopefully more corporate citizens will follow suit with this great example.
