Penang hopes to grow its tourism industry with holiday makers and visitors from the Central Asia region.
The development is following the visit of the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Malaysia, HE Ambassador Ravshan Usmanov on State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Yeoh Soon Hin.
“We are exploring new markets and opportunities in the Central Asia region. As part of the state’s ongoing efforts to promote Penang as a top tourist destination.
“We recognize the immense potential of the Central Asia market and are committed to developing new strategies and initiatives to attract visitors from this region with the support of travel agencies, governmental agencies, and other tourism stakeholders to identify the best ways to promote Penang and its offerings to potential visitors.
“I have been working to promote our state as a welcoming and inclusive destination for tourists from all over the world. Through our tailored marketing campaigns, targeting specific countries and regions, we have seen a significant increase in the number of visitors from a diverse range of countries, and the government is committed to continuing this trend.” said Yeoh.
The discussion featured a diverse panel of local tourism experts, including representatives from the tourism industry and government agencies.
They also discussed the prospect of the tourism industry, the impact of the pandemic, and ways to build a more sustainable future for the industry in both countries.
“With a shared interest, we like to take the opportunity to bring unique cuisines and cultural heritages together to promote mutual understanding and bilateral advantage between the two countries,” said Usmanov
Also present at the session was Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau chief executive officer Ashwin Gunasekaran and Penang Global Tourism chief executive officer, Ooi Chok Yan.
