By V. Sivaji
As we walked into the office of the newly appointed Deputy Chief Minister 11 of Penang, YB Jagdeep Singh Deo’s new office, there was a flurry of activity with a small group of people waiting to meet him.
There was even a group holding a platter with flowers and garlands to honour him too.
Another group were several journalists from various media organisations awaiting their turn for their slot for an interview.
The situation was compounded by a buzz and noise level caused by the sounds of hammering and drilling of contractors.
“We just moved into this office and there is a bit more work to be done. For the records, to-date I have worked on the 53rd floor, 31st floor and now on the 52nd floor over my three terms of office.
“I am very humbled by this appointment and with this new appointment comes great responsibility.
“Over the past 15 years of my service, we have always served all people and sectors. This I like to emphasize and let’s move forward.
“I look forward to the new challenges and I have also been tasked specifically to oversee the new excos. I hope to assist and guide the new Excos as I am now in my fourth term to ensure all of the state’s plans are executed,” said Jagdeep to Penang Hyperlocal.
In his new portfolio for Human Capital Development, Science and Technology, he will focus on moving forward with implementing more smart initiatives to fight climate change.
“We are in a world where it encompasses science and technology and now it is time to take it to the next level.
“I will focus on human development as it is extremely important in terms of job prospects to achieve a higher earning community. Meanwhile, Science and Technology also encompasses all portfolios.
“We have implemented 113 new smart initiatives and plan to further implement more new smart initiatives.
“Thus, there is a lot of work to be done and all quarters should also play their part,” he added in concluding the interview session.
