Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow officiated the Creative Digital District @ George Town or CD2 @ George Town at the Think City, UAB Building yesterday.
The Chief Minister is also the chairman of Digital Penang.
Also present was State Exco for Infrastructure and Transport, Zairil Khir Johari, State Exco for Housing, Local Government, Town and Country Planning, Jagdeep Singh Deo, State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy Yeoh Soon Hin and State Exco for Domestic & International Trade, Consumer Affairs & Entrepreneurship Development, Dato Abdul Halim Hussain.
The project is in line with the Digital Transformation Master Plan of Penang, infrastructure such as 5G network and a centre of excellence at Wisma Yeap Chor Ee coined as CD2Sandbox.
The site is about 5,000 sq ft for co-working space which is funded by RM1 million Founders’ Grit Seed Fund by the state government and matched by investors.
Among them are Angkasa-X, BlueShies Al, Censof, CTAPPS, Finexus, Karuna Sarawak, Securemetric and TriAset.
The pioneer partners were also presented with plaques by the Chief Minister.
A series of exhibitions were also held participated by tech start-ups, creative artists, federal agencies, MDEC and MRANTI, and local education institutions.
Also present was Dato Dr Ooi Kee Beng, Executive Director of Penang Institute, Tony Yeoh, CEO of Digital Penang, Dr Matt Benson, Programme Director of Think City , Professor Dr Lily Chan, Vice Chancellor of Wawasan university among others.
