The Penang State Government practices an all inclusive policy whereby the welfare of all communities are given equal treatment.
This is evident when an amount of RM11.5 million has been disbursed non- muslim places of worship since 2016.
Among the recipients are Chinese temples, Indian temples, Buddhist temples, Gurduwaras and Churches in the state.
Another example of this commendable deed was when Penang Deputy Chief Minister 11 YB Jagdeep Singh Deo contributed towards the upgrading and renovation work for the Sri Aluwang Muniswarar Temple in Batu Ferringhi.
“We are happy to be here at the prayer session and opening of this temple which has undergone major work to where it is today.
“We deliver for all houses of worship, temples, gurudwaras, churches, Chinese temples.
“The State government via RIBI fund (Rumah Ibadat Bukan Islam) has since 2016, allocated some RM11.5 million to over 250 places of worship, with RM6 million for Chinese Temples, RM3 million for 70 Indian Temples RM2 million for Churches and RM550 thousand for Gurdwaras
“We believe in assisting all races and I have visited this temple on numerous occasions as it brings me a peaceful feeling.
As history goes, the temple was set up by early day workers who were building on the Batu Ferringhi and Teluk Bahang road construction project. As many fell ill and faced other obstacles, they decided to place the iron rod (known as aluang in Tamil similar to crowbar) to set-up a shrine for Sri Muniswarar.
