Some 100 participants put on their sports attire to take part in the “100 Pink Bliss – Mat Pilates for A Cause”, a fundraising event organized by Penang Adventist Hospital recently.

The event was set at the peaceful courtyard of Citadines Connect Georgetown Penang.

The 60-minute mat pilates session was expertly led by three dedicated instructors from Jabfit Pilates & Yoga.

The courtyard was transformed into a sea of pink with vibrant pink workout mats filling the space.

October is recognized as Pink Month, a month dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer and promoting prevention efforts. In line with this initiative, Penang Adventist Hospital organized 100 Pink Bliss to raise funds for Cancer Fund, and also to educate the community about breast cancer as well as highlight the importance of regular check-ups and self-examinations because early detection can be lifesaving.

Among the 100 participants, four men were joining to support this significant cause. Breast cancer is not solely a female concern. Men can also be affected and their support is crucial in uplifting breast cancer patients. Many people misunderstand that Pilates is suitable only for women.

Historically, Pilates was invented by Joseph Pilates from Germany during World War I. It is a form of exercise that benefits both men and women by keeping them fit and healthy.

The primary objective of 100 Pink Bliss is to raise RM100,000 for the Cancer Fund to support more cancer patients in need of cancer treatments.

Chief Nursing Officer, Dr. Noraidah emphasized that fundraising is ongoing as the amount raised to date is still short of the target. She encouraged everyone to contribute, stating that even small donations can accumulate to create a meaningful impact.

In 2023 alone, Penang Adventist Hospital disbursed a total of RM453,733 and assisted 23 beneficiaries, reflecting the mission to help those in need. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the hospita’s dedicated charity service since its founding in 1924.

The mission continues to be as strong as ever with the support from the community.

During the 60-minute session, participants focused on following the instructors’ guidance on each posture to ensure that they met the rhythm and stretched the correct muscles. Everyone enjoyed the serene environment.

Following the energizing mat Pilates session, State Exco YB Lim Siew Khim took the stage to share her thoughts.

Her presence as a female leader encouraged the community the importance of breast cancer awareness and supporting breast cancer patients.

The memorable morning concluded with light refreshments allowing participants to mingle in the courtyard.
