The only day when the Penang Bridge is closed for traffic is for the Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM) which is to be held on Sunday, December 14, 2025.

This year, another record number of participants are set to take part, the final number of runners is expected to exceed 25,000 making it one of the largest runs in the region.

As a run-up to the event, specially wrapped buses will be used to transport runners from the island to the starting off point at the Aspen Vision City in Batu Kawan.

A special launching ceremony was held at the Aspen House along Jalan Macalister Road here attended by Penang State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Wong Hon Wai along with Dato Seri Nazir Ariff, Co-Founder and Executive Deputy chairman of Aspen.

“The Penang Bridge International Marathon has always been more than just a race. It is a celebration of energy, unity, and resilience — values that reflect not only the determination of our runners, but also the character of Penang itself.

“Each year, PBIM brings together participants from all walks of life — locals and international visitors — who come here to experience Penang’s warmth, scenic beauty, and world-class hospitality.

“Today’s bus wrap unveiling is part of our broader effort to build excitement and awareness in the lead-up to the race. These buses, which will travel across major roads in Penang, serve as moving ambassadors for PBIM — carrying with them the energy and anticipation of the marathon wherever they go,” said Wong.

He also added that more than 42 shuttle buses were deployed to serve runners traveling from both the island and the mainland to Batu Kawan, where the race will be held.

“Pick-up points will be located at Queensbay, KOMTAR, Icon City, and Batu Kawan Stadium, ensuring a smooth and well-coordinated transport system for all participants.

“Our success today would not be possible without the strong partnership between the Penang State Government through PETACE, and our valued collaborators — Aspen Group, IKEA, Klippa, and Proton, who is this year’s 10KM Title Sponsor,” shared Wong.

Penang’s growing reputation as a premier sports tourism destination — one that combines world-class events with our unique local charm and culture is well cemented.

Meanwhile, Nazir added that the run continues to grow bigger and better. We are also happy to collaborate with the state government for PBIM 2025. Aspen will also hold games and activities for the participants and members of the public to partake,” he said.
