A  two-day Orthopaedic Cadaveric Workshop was organised at the Gleneagles Hospital Penang recently.

In attendance were orthopaedic specialists from all over the country.

The workshop brought together experienced orthopaedic surgeons with junior colleagues, providing a valuable platform for education and skill development in orthopaedic surgery and related disciplines.

Participants underwent thorough hands-on training, guided by distinguished experts in diverse orthopaedic fields, within a secured and supervised setting.

Colonel (R) Dr. Vejayan Rajoo, Orthopaedic Surgeon and Sports Medicine specialist at Gleneagles Hospital Penang, served as the Organizing Chairman for this workshop.

“The goal for this training is to enhance surgical proficiency. This workshop is important for strengthening surgical expertise among young surgeons, enabling them to master intricate procedures comprehensively and quickly, therefore acquiring additional knowledge and invaluable insights into advanced techniques and approaches.

“We are positive that all participants will gain valuable learning experiences. As we celebrate this significant achievement, we reaffirm our dedication to nurturing knowledge and promoting excellence in the medical field. Our commitment to supporting initiatives that empower the next generation of healthcare professionals remains steadfast, ensuring a brighter future for our community in Northern Malaysia,’’ said Dr Vejayan.

“Cadaveric workshops like these are very important cornerstones of surgical education to improve surgical skills, and gain experience and confidence. Hands-on dissection of cadavers is one of the most time-honoured ways of educating a future physician. In future, we also hope to incorporate other technological means in our workshops such as observation of real-time dissection and computer simulations to further enhance the attendees’ experiences,” added Dato’ Dr Mohana Rao, Orthopaedic Surgeon Specialist (Foot and Ankle) at Gleneagles Hospital Penang.

Ivan Loh, Chief Executive Officer of Gleneagles Hospital Penang, emphasized, “The workshop reflects our hospital’s dedication to ongoing education and the advancement of our healthcare professionals, with the goal of enhancing orthopaedic care standards in our nation. Endeavours such as this surgical workshop will contribute to further development in the country’s healthcare sector and enhance patient care”.
