The Shangri-La Rasa Sayang Resort, Penang has several new faces stepping up the ladder to ensure the continuity of their genuine sense of hospitality and warmth.
Among them is their new Cluster Director of Rooms, Mazlan Mansor who comes with 25 years of service in the hospitality industry.
He will now be in charge of the Golden Sands Resort and Rasa Sayang Resort which offers a total inventory of 700 rooms for both properties.
Along his career journey, Mazlan has served in various capacities like the front office, reservation, housekeeping, executive lounge and room division to name a few.
“I am happy to take up this position which I am grateful for and will endeavour to live up to the expectations. I also would like to thank my area general manager Mr Markus Christ for his confidence in me and the opportunity to move up the ranks,” added Mazlan.
He also shared that he likes to meet people from a diverse background and getting to know them is something interesting. Prior to joining the Rasa Sayang Resort, Mazlan was with the E&O Hotel in Georgetown.
Mazlan’s appointment takes effect from January 1, 2024.
Another new edition resort’s Food and Beverage Department is their new French Executive cluster chef, Galli Gilles.
He comes with wide experience having worked in premier restaurants and hotels New York, Paris, London, Portugal, Loas, Bangkok, Manila, Boracay in the Philippines during his colourful career.
“Obviously, cooking is an art. It is all about giving goodness, beauty and happiness. All about
heart and energy. Discovering and enhancing new products, their history.
“I am offering a modern cooking meeting my Mediterranean roots with the flavors and spices
of the country I am living in. I only use local products selected with meticulous care, combining
pleasure with esthetic balance,” said Gilles.
He also added that what we eat is supposed to become a living part of our body, it is essential to focus on the quality of the products we choose as well as the attention we bring to the recipes.
Next, is the new Director of Food & Beverage, Derek Kwan. He will oversee F&B operations at the Shangri-La Rasa Sayang Resort and Golden Sands Resort.
He has worked in Kota Kinabalu, Nanchang, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong in various managerial capacities in the Food & Beverage industry.
He now brings his wealth of service and experience to Shangri-La group in Penang.
Commenting on the new appointments, Area general manager, Markus Christ said that they are proud to promote high potential talents to be future leaders in their chain of hotels.
“We attribute this success to the strong in-house training programme and to promote in-house talents.
“They are all an asset to the whole team and bring something of to the overall service and hospitality,” he shared.
