The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation has made a proposal to hasten the vaccination programme for the state of Penang to create herd immunity by October this year.
The Ministry has also committed to supply ample vaccines to achieve this aim.
“To this regard, Penang needs more vaccination centres to increase daily dosage delivered to the public.
“We appeal to organisations / individuals / private sectors to offer three more premises which can be utilised as vaccination centres to deliver 5,000 doses daily,” said Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow in a press statement.
He also added that this initiative will add on to the 10 vaccination centers already under operation.
“Meanwhile, another six private hospitals will also serve as vaccinations centres, they are namely Hospital Lam Wah Ee ( expected June 7), Hospital Loh Guan Lye (expected June 14), Hospital Pantai (expected June 7), Hospital KPJ (expected June 7), Penang Adventist Hospital (expected June 14) and Gleneagles Hospital (expected June 14).
“The Minister has also given his commitment to vaccinate the “economic frontliners”, namely for the manufacturing / factories followed by the construction and tourism industry.
“In the meantime the USM campus will also be utilised as a “drive thru” vaccination centre ,” added Chow.
