The first industry-driven childcare centre was launched in Batu Kawan by Micron Technologies Inc.
It is dubbed to be the first public-privately funded child care centre of its kind in Malaysia and also the world.
Present to perform the launching ceremony was Micron Technologies President and chief executive officer Dato Sanjay Mehrotra along with Amarjit Sandhu, Country Manager along with their associates.
The private-public initiative aims to offer its employees, especially the female associated career independence. They can now focus on their career and also their family.
Also present was State Exco for social development and non-Islamic religious affairs YB Chong Eng who represented the Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow.
Chow is also the new Member of Parliament for Batu Kawan.
Lending support was Dato Seri Lee Kah Choon Seri Lee Kah Choon who is the special advisor to the Chief Minister of Penang on economic affairs, Whytehouse Education Group Founder and Executive Director, Jery Yeoh among others.
The programme is also part of Micron’s initiatives to promote an inclusive society and benefit its growing staff force.
“Access to childcare is one of the biggest determiners of whether working parents and mothers specifically, are able to build a strong and fulfilling career.
“This centre is part of Micron”s strategy to buid a diverse team with the strongest talent. We are also thankful to the Penang State Government and TalentCorp for their partnership,” said Sanjay in his address.
He also added that the high quality and affordable childcare will help ensure they can continue to attract and retain the best and brightest.
“We also hope to open childcare centres from what we learn from this centre,” he added.
Meanwhile, Chow in a recorded video congratulated Micron Malaysia on the launch of the childcare centre and lauded the meaningful public-private partnerships among ecosystem players in creating a conducive atmosphere for talent growth and enhancement.
“As we embrace digitalization and create a society that is digital ready, early childhood education is critical in nurturing future generations of lifelong learners,” added Chow.
The centre which is expected to opne next month (December) can accommodate up to 100 children between the ages of three and six years old. The facility is managed by Whytehouse Education Group, an established operator in early child care education facilities in Malaysia.
Following a ribbon cutting ceremony, VIP guests were taken on a tour of the new childcare centre.
