Danny JC Yeo – the new general manager of Mercure Langkawi Pantai Cenang

The Mercure Langkawi Pantai Cenang welcomes its new general manager – Danny JC Yeo.

Yeo comes with more than 30-years of experience in the hospitality industry having worked in hotels and resorts in China, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, the United Kingdom and Malaysia too.

His last posting was as the general manager at the Pullman Shanghai South, a central business-district (CBD) located hotel in Shanghai, China.

Prior to this, he was also the general manager of the Pullman Oceanview Sanya Bay Resort and Spa, Sanya, Hainan, a multi-faceted property with hotel, villas and apartments at the vibrant seaside resort city of Sanya and the Hilton Hefei with 532-rooms, manufacturing capital city of the Anhui province.

He had also served as the hotel manager based in the ancient capital city of Xian in Shaanxi province where he managed a huge 1000-room multi-branded hotel that consists of four Accor brands – the Sofitel, Grand Mercure, Mercure and the historic Renmin Dasha Hotel (rebranded as the Sofitel Legend People’s Grand Hotel, Xian).

On the road to becoming a general manager, Yeo was one of the early participants for the Accor’s renowned Academie Accor GM-Pass program, a detailed two-year program that prepares selected individuals for the role of hotel general manager with practical exposures in various countries within the group.

After successfully completing the program, he was promoted and transferred by Accor China to be general manager of two Sofitel hotels simultaneously located at the lively industrious city of Dongguan, Guangdong, the Sofitel Royal Lagoon and the Sofitel Dongguan Golf Resort in 2010.

To-date, among the big hospitality brands he has served in are the Accor, Hilton and IHG groups. 

Yeo originally hails from Kampar, Perak however now resides in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. 

Although starting from the Finance department in the hotel industry, he has moved up the ladder to attain the post of general manager for the past 18-years.

“Langkawi offers a unique opportunity to showcase my experience and travels. With the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) 2025 just around the corner, it will surely help boost the overall hospitality industry on the island”, shared Yeo to Penang Hyperlocal.

He is a fellow Chartered Management Accountant (FCMA) from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA UK) and a Chartered Accountant with Malaysia Institute of Accountant. 

He is a family man with four children, his wife is a lawyer who runs her own legal practice.

“My vision has always been to constantly seek and maximize business opportunities, prioritizing guest’s satisfaction and increasing staff motivation, productivity and efficiency”, shared Yeo.

While not at work, he enjoys reading, listening to music, playing the folk guitar, singing and a round of snooker or darts. He is an ardent traveler with his latest holiday destination being in Australia.

He is also into food and likes good wine while keeping up-to-date of the hotel, F&B destination trends, an activity that stimulates him in his successful management and promotion of the hotel’s business and growth.
