The Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) is positive and supportive of the international borders reopening and they are hopeful that the requirements will be made as traveler friendly as possible.

In a brief statement issued today, they highlight the need to still establish VTLs with countries that are not fully open to accommodate travel from both sides.

“While the industry is thankful for the Government’s decision, especially the Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture, the industry will also need to consider the outflow of Malaysians taking advantage of the reopening to travel overseas instead of domestic.

“Marketing and promotions for domestic tourism will need to be intensified while we restart international tourism marketing to drive arrivals, including incentives for airlines to bring more passengers in.

“The industry is well prepared with hygiene and safety standards such as the Clean & Safe Malaysia hotel certification by Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) and Bureau Veritas Certifications Malaysia, part of the Travel Safe Alliance Malaysia, partnership with MATTA, MACEOS and the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAS, Firefly and MasWings),” read the statement.

Earlier today Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakop announced that international borders will open wef April 1, 2022.

The country will enter the endemic phase after nearly two years. Fully vaccinated individuals do not need to undergo quarantine.

Other highlights include green light for restaurant to be open according to their business license.

However, face masks will be required to be worn in public areas and registration via MySejahtera is still compulsory.
